Former French President Valery Giscard d’Estaing, who served his nation from 1974-1981 is currently under investigation by the French Authorities for allegedly sexually harassing 37-year-old German reporter, Ann Kathrin.

Ann, an employee of the German organization WDR describes it as “a very degrading experience” when she was groped three times during a photoshoot and inappropriately touched even after the shoot.

She believes that it was crucial for her to show the world that a former French president is capable of sexually harassing someone, and is backed by the WDR after they launched their own private investigation.

In light of these events, the former French President’s office claims that he has no vivid memory of such an incident taking place, and if it did, he would obviously be “very sorry”. Furthermore, the former President claims that the allegations made are simply “offensive and undignified media attacks” targeted towards him.

According to the French Criminal Code, under Article 222-33, sexual harassment is punishable by two years of imprisonment and a fine of €30,000. This fine can be increased to €45,000 if it involves abuse of authority vested in the offender by virtue of his/her position. Sexual aggression charges can be pressed under Article 222-22 of the FCC.
