A humble little boy was born to a tyre-seller. In his teenage years he realised that he wasn’t cut out for the sport of cricket, and so he joined drama school.

That was the start of his beautiful journey.

From the Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire to light hearted comedies like Karwaan, this man changed the standards of not just Bollywood, but the entirety of global cinema. Irrespective of the film genre, he never failed to deliver a crucial social message to his audience. He was a man of few words, and that proved sufficient for him to leave a permanent mark in the hearts of millions of people across the world.

Irrfan Khan, at the rather young age of 53, passed away as a result of a colon infection on Wednesday. He was being treated at the Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai. His illness (neuroendocrine tumour) was diagnosed back in March of 2018, but that never stopped him from delivering brilliant stories. He is survived by his wife Sutapa Sikdar and two sons, Ayan and Babil.

In this heartbreaking time, we pray that his family stays safe and sound. Needless to say, his soul will remain evergreen in our hearts and continues to bring smiles on people’s faces.
